We have a few reptiles here. Texas horned lizards used to be on the place, but it’s been 30 years since we’ve seen them. We hope that they can be re-introduced here sometime in the future. We do have plenty of red harvester ants, which they feed on. We do have geckos and Texas spiny lizards. We have seen Texas rat snakes, western diamond back rattlers, eastern hog-nose snakes, Texas coral snakes, copperheads, and checkered garter snakes, but not very often. So many insects enjoy the prairie. You can take a look at them on the iNaturalist Creech Prairie Project also—lots of grasshoppers, praying mantises, and spiders, and some really unusual ones like the hercules beetle and the windscorpion. We have also seen a lot of beautiful butterflies and moths.
